Precise diagnostics: the basis of successful treatment
Diagnosing conditions in the mouth accurately and planning treatment safely often takes more than a visual examination. That is why the clinic uses a modern digital X-ray machine: it substantially reduces the radiation dose, and the exposure lasts only a few seconds. The dentist sees a sharp image on screen straight away.
We take both single-tooth images and panoramic radiographs of the whole jaw. The first show the root and canals of a particular tooth; the second give an overall view of all the teeth, roots and jawbone. Both are entirely painless, and for our youngest visitors we have a gentler child setting.
When is an X-ray needed?

During root canal treatment
It lets us check the length of the roots and confirm the canal is sealed all the way to the tip.

Finding hidden decay
An X-ray picks up decay concealed deep between the teeth or beneath old fillings.

Assessing wisdom teeth
It shows the position of the wisdom tooth roots before treatment or extraction begins.

Planning implants
It lets us assess the height and structure of the jawbone before an implant is placed.

Extensive prosthetic work
It reveals the overall condition of all the teeth and their roots, and uncovers hidden inflammation.
How is an X-ray taken?
It takes only a few minutes and is completely painless.

Getting ready
You take off glasses, earrings and other metal jewellery that could block the image.

Protection
If needed, you wear a protective apron. For pregnant patients we take X-rays only when treatment is impossible without them.

The image
The sensor is placed against the tooth and the exposure lasts a few seconds. It is important to keep still.

Discussion
The image appears on the screen straight away, so the dentist can show and explain it during the same visit.
Dental X-ray prices in Vilnius
A dental X-ray at our clinic costs €10. If treatment calls for a three-dimensional image, the 3D CT scan is done at a partner clinic and we assess the images ourselves.

Frequently asked questions about dental X-rays

Are dental X-rays safe?
Yes. The dose from a digital dental X-ray is very low, about the same as the natural background radiation we all receive over one to a few days. We only take X-rays when treatment genuinely needs them.

Can I have an X-ray while pregnant?
Routine X-rays are postponed until after the birth. If one is essential for urgent treatment, we take it with a protective apron, and the beam is aimed only at the mouth.

Can children have X-rays?
Yes, when a diagnosis needs it, for example to find decay between baby teeth or to check how permanent teeth are coming through. For children we use a gentler, lower-dose setting.

What is the difference between a dental and a panoramic X-ray?
A dental (periapical) X-ray shows one or two teeth in detail, with their roots and canals. A panoramic X-ray shows all the teeth and both jaws in one image. It is useful at a first visit, when planning implants or assessing wisdom teeth.

When is a 3D CT scan needed?
When a three-dimensional view is required: precise implant planning, a difficult wisdom tooth position or complex canal anatomy. In that case we refer you to a partner clinic.
